Adjustable Macrame Necklace

I started making these adjustable cord necklaces about 5 years ago when using different coloured wires for my wire wrapped jewellery. I found it really difficult to colour match chains to my pendants. So, here is how I make my adjustable cotton cord necklaces.

 

I prefer to use 1.5mm cotton as it's more comfortable to wear than thinner cords.

I also prefer to use 1mm cotton cord for the sliding macrame knot, but you can use the same cord for both parts. You'll see I've used beige cord in this video, which I've used as it's much easier to visually demonstrate with.

 

What you need for this simple design:

Waxed cotton cord: I use waxed cotton as it doesn't fray and the slip knot works really well. In this video I have made a long necklace, but you can easily experiment with your preferred length of cord.

Fabric Glue: I use fabric glue to hold the knot closed. I found this is less scratchy than using nail varnish. I also found this was slightly more reliable than stitching the ends back through the macrame knot.

Tape Measure & Scissors: To measure and cut your cord.
