2 styles of Prong Setting wire Wrapping ring Tutorial
Simple Prong Ring
​Make these lovely rings in just 14 steps!
I have used copper wire in this tutorial as it's ideal for demos but I would use 925 silver in finished jewellery as it is more resistant to tarnishing.
I have used a large cubic zirconia as its easier to show the details of the wire wrapping process. Also pictured id an Aquamarine and an Amethyst.
Wire:
2x 8cm of 0.8mm or 20gauge for size M
​6cm of 0.6mm or 22gauge
A gemstone of your choice
Tools:
​Soft hammer & block
Mandrel
Needle nosed pliers
Wire cutters
Flat crystal or bezel press
Bull dog clip or clamp
A sharpie and a pencil

How to measure your wire
​
For the right length of wire you will need to know your ring size. Use the chart for the ring circumference.
Add 20mm to your ring circumference.
This is for stones up to 10mm in diameter.
For larger stones you will need to add more then 20mm.
Example:
UK size M Circumference: 53.1mm ​
Add 20mm = 73.1mm
Round it up to make it easier, I used 80mm.

Wire cutters
Needle nosed pliers
Steel diamond file
Rawhide hammer
Pencil
Ring Clamp, I put mine in a vice to hold it steady
Nylon pliers
Materials for each ring:
Wire Wrapped Solitare Ring
30cm of 0.8mm/20g soft copper wire (upgrade to silver/gold)
6cm of 0.4mm/26g soft copper wire (upgrade to silver/gold) 8mm Cubic Zirconia
Wire Wrapped Cluster Ring:
30cm of 0.8mm/20g soft silver plated copper wire (upgrade to silver/gold)
6cm & 10cm of 0.4mm/26g soft silver plated copper wire (upgrade to silver/gold)
6mm Cubic Zirconia
8x 2mm faceted bi-cone beads
Wire Wrapped Side Stone Ring:
30cm of 0.8mm/20g soft silver plated copper wire (upgrade to silver/gold)
6cm & 10cm of 0.4mm/26g soft silver plated copper wire (upgrade to silver/gold)
8mm Cubic Zirconia 6x 2mm faceted bi-cone beads
